Day 5, another day done

My appointment with the chiropractor went well... got a few more things to adjust that didn't want to last time. Oh.. and my ear?.. Yikes! Here's how that went:

Doc sticks a gloved finger into my mouth and massages the far back corner (near where the inner ear canal connects.. you know.. that whole ears, nose, throat thing)
We have now entered a whole new world of pain. I grab the bench I'm laying on, desperately trying to relax, eyes closed and slightly watering, and mumbling something along the lines of, "UHHHHHHHH...MMMMM..UUUGGGHHH!"
He finally pulls his finger out.
I bask in the relief, "Oh.. my.." And rub my eyes.
He looks at me and asks, "Did that hurt?"
I laugh, "Yes...." Then raise an eyebrow, "Is it supposed to?"
"No...." He rolls his chair to the other side, "It means there's inflammation.. Lets check the other side..."
ROUND TWO! Except this time he does a few more things, adding to the pain and the total amount of time.
He looks down at me, "Did that hurt to?"
Me, thinking OH MY GOODNESS PAIN!, reply, "Yes...."
"Well... we should do the other side again.. you know, can't be unbalanced." (He wanted to check some more things)
I laughed, "Oh yes... can't have more pain on one side than the other."
So away we go again! And because this is the side that's more inflamed, it is naturally even more painful. I didn't even realize I started to bite down until he pulled his finger out and his glove was scraping across my teeth.
Quite the excitement for one day.
And unfortunately, it's STILL crackling like there's Seven Up trapped behind my ear drum... When I see him in the morning, I'll let him know... Maybe we'll get to do it again!... *sigh*... The whole point was to release trapped fluid. Why is there fluid backed up, you ask? My guess is from some sneezing I did on Wednesday or Thursday.. I wouldn't be surprised... it certainly wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened... Though it is the first time it's sounded like Seven Up fizzing about.... Odd.

The rest of the day was okay. I little bit of nausea, but nothing too bad, and being out in the fresh air seemed to help. I spoke with one of the other interns, who had commented to Dr. Awesome that she had a friend with ITP, that was caused by environment... exposure to metals, chemicals, etc. So he had me fill out an environment form thing... and I think will order some tests? Not sure. And apparently, the H.Pylori test that he order, they DIDN'T do! They tested for something else.. or.. I don't know.. that just doesn't make sense. The intern said they will randomly pick and chose who gets the test done.... What!? Weired..

Today one of the ladies left, and apparently it was also her birthday so she wanted me to put on a little concert. Hehehe.. So I wracked my brain and came up with Save It For a Rainy Day, Danny Boy, and The Quite of My Heart. Since I didn't bring any jazz music with me, it had to be memorized. A few other ladies joined us, including that intern mentioned in the above paragraph. I made one of them cry with Danny Boy.. hehheheh. :) They all throughly enjoyed it, and word got around what I had done....So now everyone wants me to do it again. I will...and maybe a few more tunes will come to mind by that time.

To close today, I just wanted to say this is not nearly as easy as I thought it would be.. And there have been moments that I've been a little scared, and have thought, "Am I doing the right thing?" And then I see all the amazing miracles right before my eyes! And everyone I tell my doubts to, they become my strength and encouragement. There is NO way I could have done this anywhere else.

I took some pictures today of the courtyard... I will undoubtedly take more. :)

  1. Wow Kate! Hang in there sweetheart. I just hope that 2 weeks will be enough....does Dr. Awesome think so? At any rate, I know you dont have much more time to be able to spend there, but just hoping the time you do have will be adequate. I guess we trust the Lord that it will be.
I am also thankful that you are doing your fasting there...under the care of knowledgeable doctors who can treat and understand the underlying causes of all your surfacing symtoms. The ear problem...crazy!
Be sure to send the address to me.
    Love,
    mom

  2. Courtyard looks nice!

"Oh yes... can't have more pain on one side than the other."

This made me laugh out loud.
